Northmead Junior School

School Animals

Northmead is home to a menagerie of animals. We have worked hard, supported by the Northmead Supporters Team to create a unique resource for pupils to enjoy. Our animal area gives children the opportunity to interact with different pets.  This engagement helps to develop an enthusiasm about nature.

Many of our children love visiting the animal area and tending to the animals’ different needs. We run an animal club which gives children practical skills and an important sense of responsibility.

Children turn to animals for emotional well-being, they can help children when they are feeling tired, upset, scared or lonely.  Regular contact with animals has also been shown to make children calmer, better able to concentrate and more co-operative.
