There have been many exciting events recently. These include a successful visit to Wisley for Year 3, a group visited the O2 for a wonderful singing experience and our year 6 girls football team did magnificently. See the items further on in this newsletter for details.
Reading fluency. This month, teaching staff have been focusing on how to develop children’s fluency skills when reading. Reading fluency is the ability to read easily, accurately, with proper expression and at a suitable pace. In order to understand what they read, children must be able to read fluently whether they are reading aloud or silently. Children who do not read fluently have to work hard on the mechanics of reading which means there’s no mental energy left to think about the meaning of what they are reading.
This term there is an exciting opportunity for keen singers and performers. On the 22nd March, there is the prestigious G Live Music Festival featuring most of the junior and primary schools from the Guildford area. Each year we take 30 Northmead children to participate in this event and each year the children say they have thoroughly enjoyed taking part!
Happy New Year. We hope you were all able to enjoy a relaxing Christmas with your family and friends. The children and staff have all returned refreshed and enthusiastic to be back after a good length break.
Thames Water will be closing Grange Road on Wednesday 11th January 2023 from 8:30am to 4:30pm
As an exciting introduction to our learning about rainforests and plants, we have planned a trip to Wisley Gardens on 10th January 2023. The trip will take place during school hours.
