Pupil Safety and Well-being

children traveling to school

As we continue to prioritise the safety and well-being of our pupils, we’d like to remind everyone of a few important safety guidelines. Please take a moment to read through these points and encourage your child to follow them for their own safety.

  1. Safe Walking to and from School:

Walk on the pavement, not in the road, and avoid distractions such as mobile phones while walking.

Remind children to look both ways before crossing.

Do not walk through the vehicle gate on the main school drive as this puts children in the path of vehicles accessing the school site.

  1. Stranger Danger:

Remind your child never to talk to anyone they do not know when travelling to or from school.

If your child feels uncomfortable or unsafe, they should immediately report the situation to a trusted adult or teacher.

If you are allowing your child to walk home without an adult, encourage them to do so with a friend or sibling when possible.

Please do not drop your child at school too early as there is no supervision on the drive until 8:30, leaving children vulnerable. Registers are taken at 8:45, so all children should be safely in school by this time.

  1. Cycle Safety and Helmet Use:

All children riding bikes to school are required to wear a helmet. There are a number of children who frequently ride without this protection, which is worrying when they are cycling on busy roads such as Grange Road and Stoughton Road.

If children continue to ride without this protection, we do feel keeping their bikes in school until a parent can fetch them may be a way forward for the safety of the children.

One study on the effects of wearing bicycle helmets when involved in an accident has shown fatal head injuries were reduced by 71%, serious injuries were reduced by 60%, and overall head injuries by 48%. By providing your child with a correctly fitting helmet.

Thank you for your continued support.
