Homework

Discussing and encouraging children with their homework is  very helpful. Maths and English homework in Year 6 is meant as a means of consolidation for work done in class. If your child is struggling with their homework, please contact the group teacher. Topic homework can take many forms: from finishing off a piece of work from class to in-depth research.

If you are finding that homework is becoming a battleground, please just let us know and we can attempt to resolve the issue in school.

English

Reading

One of the main ways you can help your child is to read with them at home. Encouraging your child to read a range of different texts, from fiction books to newspapers to recipes, can improve their Literacy enormously.

Children will continue to bring home their reading record.  Please listen to your child read and sign their record.  We ask children to hand in this record once a week.

Written English Homework

A piece of written English work will be set on a Friday.  This must be handed in on Monday morning.

Spellings

Children are asked to learn spellings.  Weekly spellings will be sent home.

Maths

Maths homework is set on a Tuesday.  Children are asked to complete this by Thursday.

It is important that children continue to learn their times-tables, please take time to work on these with your children.

Topic Homework

Topic homework is set weekly.  This is not always set on the same day. It will be set at an appropriate point in the children's learning.
