Our School has been chosen to take part in an exciting community art project in association with Guildford Borough Council and British Master Artsmith and Sculptor, Charles Normandale. Twenty children from year four will be working with Mrs Backhurst and two local artists, to design some fish which will be photographed and become Charles Normandale inspirational starting point when he designs the final fish forms for inclusion in a sculpture called 'Silver Shoon'

The finished work will comprise of a number of eight metre tall forged reeds with stainless steel abstract fish swimming amongst them. It will be sited on the river bank at Woodbridge Meadows and was inspired by the poem 'Silver' by Walter de la Mere.

The children have spent a whole day developing their drawing and design skills with the artists. The final designs will be applied to a large frieze before being photographed. The frieze and the children's original art work will remain in school so that it can be finished off and displayed.

Photographs from the day will be used in promotional material and we will be visited by a member of the Public Advisory Board, representatives from Guildford Borough Council, the Surrey Advertiser and the Madame Mayor of Guildford.

This will be an inspirational day and we are delighted to be able to offer the children such an exciting opportunity.
